Spray Foam Insulation

Insulation of your new residential, agricultural or commercial building is imperative, particularly in our harsh North Dakota climate.  However, when it comes to insulation there are so many potential choices.  Old fashioned rolled insulation? Blown in fiberglass?  How about spray foam?

Spray foam insulation?  The team at Dynamite Builders are big fans.  There are a lot of reasons we are so big on spray foam insulation, but first, maybe an overview is appropriate.

Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam, also known as SPF (spray-applied polyurethane foam), has been around for a while and keeps getting better with age.  Technological advances have made SPF insulation one of the most durable and cost-efficient insulation choices on the market today.

Spray foam can be applied to both your roofing system, as well as to the walls of your building, increasing the level of insulation exponentially.

Roofing System

Applying SPF to your existing roofing structure offers not only additional insulation, but the very nature of the spray foam itself reduces risk of leaks, improves roofing system longevity, reduces heating and cooling costs, and improves energy efficiency.

SPF is applied over your existing roofing system in a single application, eliminating the presence of seams in the protective coating.  As seams are the single biggest point of failure in a roofing system, this one step increases the lifespan of your roofing structure by years.

SPF is suitable for application over the following roofing systems:

  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Concrete
  • EPDM
  • BUR
  • Modified bitumen

Wall Application

Application of SPF to your interior walls as a part of your new build,  is a simple straight-forward process.  Once the exterior walls and initial framing is complete, the foam is applied within the frame itself.  Interior sheetrock can then be applied directly over the foam insulation.

The addition of SPF insulation virtually wraps your building in a cocoon of expandable polyurethane foam.  The foam expands, filling gaps and crevices, ensuring complete and total coverage.

Additionally, the presence of SPF increases the strength and structural integrity of the building overall by increasing the rack and shear of the structure itself.  It is even flood water resistant for up to 72 hours!

Why We Prefer Conklin BASF

There are many different SPF options on the market. We prefer Conklin brands.  Why?  Because we like to work with the best. Conklin has been a leader in the market since 1977.  Since that time, they have created technological advances unequaled in the industry.

Conklin SPF provides an insulation value of R-6.5 per inch.  The R value is a measure of the insulation’s ability to reduce the rate of heat flow. The higher the R value, the higher the insulating factor.  By increasing the number of inches applied, you equally improve the insulating levels.  If you apply 2 inches, you get a factor of 13 inches.  3 inches provides a factor of 19.5 inches and so forth.  Simply multiply the number of inches of insulation times the R factor involved.

When applied to your roofing system, Conklin’s white SPF has been shown to reflect up to 85% of the sun’s heat and reduce cooling costs as much as 30%.  Additionally, the materials are resistant to dirt and discoloration, reducing maintenance requirements.

Finally, Conklin offers an optional non-pro-rated material warranty. Only a company that truly believes in its product would be willing to go so far to back it.
